Angel Drawings Research

On april 4, 2002, dr. Vladimir Sivitsky organised an exhibition of Aster's Angel Drawings in the Maxim Bogdanovich's Literary Museum (Minsk, Belarussia) and invited several prominent scientists to discuss the pheonomenon of ideomotoric drawing.

I see it as the idea of art.

We have to come from the fact that art is a way of symbolising the reality. What we see here is also symbolic. So from my perspective we shouldn’t talk about techniques, we should talk about our understanding of the symbols. And this understanding is so much personal. That’s why I really appreciate these kind of meetings. Because I think that selfexpression of the author is also giving a possibility of self analysis for the audience. I see it as the idea of art. What has been made is made for us.

The language of gestures, the first language used on this planet

And the second point I want to mention, I would like to think about ideomotorics as the way of symbolising the world. Maybe there is a way to connect ideomotorics with art from a different perspective. If I am thinking about it I recall the language of gestures, the first language used on this planet. When I see the way the paintings are being created I think that ideomotorics is also just the way of symbolising the world.

“ Who are we? Where are we coming from and where are we going?”

This exhibition made a very deep impression on me. I had a possibility to see how the artists create nowadays, not only following traditions and rules but also as a way of self expression.

I think that in our world of aggression and negative emotions we miss very important things; the questions which we should ask ourselves are: “ Who are we? Where are we coming from and where are we going?” And the person whose work we see here is presenting his idea of it and we all can appreciate it. He is doing it in his own way and the only thing I can tell you now is that I am very thankful to you for the possibility to see all this and to express my opinion on it.
